The family of Anthony and Alida Barendregt lost their home and all its contents to fire on November 1, 2009.
If you need to be in touch with the family, call them at 780-532-3773.
March 24 2010 8 p.m. Praise God! The first check for the house arrived today, so the Barendregts can begin building!
Feb 28 2010 4:30 p.m. Read the latest family update here.
Nov 23 5:30 p.m. Diane Purdy is now coordinating family photos. If you have photos to share, please see the details at bottom right.
Nov 20 1:45 p.m. Please note the new phone number (above) for the family; they now have a separate line at Wattels.
Nov 4 3:45 p.m. The Christ Covenant congregation and broader community have both stepped up in remarkable ways. A couple of church families have been helping provide bread and other food (twenty people under one roof tend to eat a fair bit!), while a lot of people have been pitching in behind the scenes. Thanks to everyone for your self-giving service and gifts.
Nov 3 12:30 p.m. We now have a church benevolence account with the Servus Credit Union. Monetary donations can be made by going to any Servus Credit Union and asking to donate to the Fundraising for A & A Barendregt.
Nov 2 10:20 a.m. Item donations are no longer on hold, but please call first to help determine what would be most suitable. Thank you!
Nov 1 10:20 p.m. Please hold off on item donations - a great deal of clothing has already been donated and must be sorted so that the family can determine what is still necessary. Thanks for your generous support.
Nov 1, 8:15 p.m. The family will be staying at Leo and Yolanda Wattel's home for the time being. They will be arriving shortly. Please note the updated "How you can help" for further details on the sorts of items that would be of greatest assistance to them.
Nov 1, 4:45 p.m. The council was all present for a miniature covenant renewal service at the home of Dick and Joanne Barendregt, so that as many as possible of those who missed church this morning could share in the fellowship of the Word and sacrament. About forty people were present. I meditated very briefly (about five minutes) on Matthew 6.19-34, and Mr Plante officiated the table.
The Red Cross was showing up as we departed. They have some form of program for helping with the sorts of material needs that arise within the first 72 hours when a home is lost. The receiving team has been informed, so please be sure to contact Emily Harris to verify regarding which necessary short-term items may still need to be obtained.
Nov 1, 1:45 p.m. Arrangements have been made for accommodations among the extended family for the time being. The elders will be having a "mini" communion service this afternoon at Dick and Joanne Barendregt's home, which is serving as sort of gathering spot at the moment.
As household contents (not Anthony's library) were insured and there is in any case nowhere to put large items, our aim is not now to replace long-term items such as furniture, but to ease the immediate situation.
