September 15 Council Meeting Summary

Council met, September 15, 2008. All council members except Mr Plante were present. Here are a few high points:

  1. It was noted that additional Lord's Supper trays have been ordered.
  2. To aid the congregation in understanding what we are doing in worship, council agreed to begin spending a couple of minutes each Sunday giving brief comments on a different aspect of the liturgy (to be provided by the worship leader).
  3. Council discussed the upcoming CREC presbytery and council meetings.
  4. Council has been discussing the need and desire for a Christian school. We decided to ask for volunteers to serve on a "feasibility study committee." This committee would investigate the following: (a) How other schools and cooperatives proceed; (b) What is involved in terms of governmental accountability; (c) pros and cons of a church school vs a parental/board-run school. We are allowing three Sundays to see if volunteers arise; if not, we will put the matter off until a later date.
  5. Council discussed the membership situations of various people who have either moved away or begun attending regularly.
  6. Council agreed to pay facility expenses for the upcoming Thanksgiving supper (Oct 4, 5-8 p.m.).

We haven't posted much over the summer, but there are a few things to announce by now!

  • Our schedule is getting back into full swing for fall. Body'n'Soul youth group begins again this coming Thursday, September 11. It runs 6:30-8:30 p.m. at McLaurin Baptist. This is a great opportunity for our young people to study the Bible together, as well as fellowship and engage in sports activities.
  • Bible study starts up again the following week; as before, we will alternate weeks with Body'n'Soul. We continue to study Peter Leithart's A House for My Name. The first session of the fall will be a review, and will be held September 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gallant home. Please contact Tim Gallant if you are interested in joining the rotation for hosting the study.
  • We will celebrate the return of Alyssa and Amelia Shoemaker with a potluck following church on Sunday, September 21 at the Shoemaker home. Bring your food to share, and bring an appetite to feast!
